Constructing Strong Relationships

One of our greatest strengths and primary advantages over other building and renovations contractors is the number of long-term employees on our staff. Our clients tell us they value and appreciate knowing they will be dealing with the same familiar people throughout the process of building or renovating their home.

Both Executive Director Jim Farlow and Project Manager Bill Sellars have three decades of residential building experience each. Both are licensed by the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors and are designated qualifiers. We hold an Unlimited building classification, giving clients and architects virtually unlimited opportunities for their project while working with us.

The Farlow Group is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and holds to the highest professional standards. Jim Farlow participates in NAHB’s Builder 20 program, an organization that brings builders from around the country together to share their expertise with colleagues from non-competing markets to strengthen the performance of their individual companies. The Farlow Group is also a member of NAHB’s local branch, the Wilmington-Cape Fear Homebuilders Association and participates in its Remodeler's Council.

Also on the local front, The Farlow Group is proud to be affiliated with the Cape Fear Green Building Alliance, a group of professionals in building-related trades who share a common concern for the environment and pursue knowledge of low impact building methods. Sustainable building is part of our operational model. New construction and remodeled homes that are built to the highest standards are inherently more energy efficient than less well built structures and are built to last for generations—recycling in perhaps its purest form.  And our green building approach is not limited to new construction; we apply these fundamentals to our renovations projects with equal fervor.

Particularly pertinent to renovations projects in older homes, the Farlow Group is also lead-certified, holding a license with the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Management Program for Renovation, Repair, and Painting. This certification is required when working in homes that have lead paint.

"...we did not consider any other contractor because our experience with the first home was nothing short of outstanding in every respect"

-Bill and Jackie Warwick

The Farlow Group has built two custom homes for us in the last 15 years in the Landfall community. The construction period for each of these homes was approximately 18 months. When we decided to build our current home, we did not consider any other contractor because our experience with the first home was nothing short of outstanding in every respect—the quality of the Farlow Group staff and their subcontractors is the best I have ever experienced. The responsiveness during the construction process and afterwards is unprecedented in my experience. In these two experiences and the time in between, we have never had a cross word or argument of any kind with any member or the Farlow Group or their subcontractors. The words "high quality and responsiveness" are values the Farlow Group lives every day.
